Finding the right words to describe Santa Monica is really hard. We are in California, overlooking this endless ocean that represents the symbol of this American State. When somebody talks about California it is impossible not to think about long beaches, Hollywood, movies and TV series. Well, you can easily find all these things but there is so much more to discover. Believe it or not, you can actually walk around Santa Monica. I visited Santa Monica in November; during this time of the year Milan starts getting very cold, and when you walk in the street you can’t wait to reach your destination. Here in California, instead, temperatures are nicely warm and I wish I was wearing a skirt instead of a pair of jeans. Despite weather can be very moody in this area, temperatures during the day are nice and warm; many people indeed have fun swimming in the ocean.
I have started my visit by checking the famous Santa Monica Pier, a recreational center for tourists and for those who feel like experiencing something different. The place overlooks the ocean and visitors can enjoy a lovely walk along its promenade. If you look on your left side you can see the coast; the natural landscape is so vaste that I can barely see its end. When you are on beach you can enjoy that fresh and overwhelming air that can be found only on the ocean; this air is rich of salt and iodine – just like ours – but it is also very fresh; it is perfect to free your mind and understand that here everything is possible. You feel overwhelmed by a sense of adrenaline and the more you look around, the more you feel like being part of a new world. I had never experienced this feeling before, and now it’s following me through my journey.
Santa Monica, being on the beach, is also the perfect city for some shopping experience. Here one can find a number of different shops; from international brands and boutiques, to souvenir shops.
Santa Monica is located just twenty minutes away from Los Angeles; if you grab a taxi it should cost you around 30$. I highly suggest you to spend some time here; this place will steal your heart and it will inspire you with lots of fresh and new energy. Santa Monica represents one of the highlights of my experience overseas and I wish that one day I will have the opportunity to visit it again.
